Former Mayor Bob Armstrong is seriously ill.
His term as mayor from 1976 to 1980 was marked by openess and inclusiveness. The friendliness, graciousness, and selflessness that has always characterized Bob was in full display during the years when he was Mayor Bob Armstrong.
Those same qualities were present when he served the public again on the Allen County Council.
Those qualities are integral to the man and so, a life from his basketball playing days on the Championship Central High School basketball team to his days as a coach, educator and athletic director to all his relationships with an extremely large circle of colleagues and friends have all been marked by the same grace notes.
Those qualities - teamed with the same qualities of his full partner in life, Nila - made for exceptional parents.
His children and grandchildren recognize that. They have done something recently that ensures everyone can see the story of Bob's exceptional qualities and achievements. Bob's son, Dan, showed me with evident pride - pride in his Dad and his pride in his parent's grandchildren - what that was.
So, you are invited to view the work the family has done on the Bob Armstrong Wikipedia entry. It is FWOb recommended reading.

Thanks Mitch for a great tribute. Many may have forgotten the contributions Bob made to our community over the years - Bob has been a friend and mentor of mine. He taught me to swim at pocahontas, and encouraged me to be involved in the Republican Party and public service. I just need to find my old "I'm strong for Armstrong" campaign button. It was thr first campaign I ever worked on back in '75
