The Evansville Courier Press reports on the award of a commission to Fort Wayne architect George Morrison and Fort Wayne sculptor (community activist and business executive) Will Clark for the new State Abraham Lincoln Memorial.
Mr. Morrison is a principal of Morrison Kattman Menze architects.
Congratulations. Their work was selected in a statewide competition by the Indiana Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
Plans have been unveiled for the new memorial to Abraham Lincoln which will be erected in Lincoln State Park and dedicated in 2009.
The state’s Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission has chosen a design from sculptor Will Clark and architect George Morrison, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., for the $300,000 project.
The public art will consist of a large circular plaza punctuated with interactive limestone pedestals that represent the different heights of a child (Lincoln) growing from age 7 to adulthood in the Indiana backwoods. The design also will feature a twice life size bronze bust of President Lincoln.
“It will truly be a destination for visitors,” said Connie Nass, the former Huntingburg, Ind., mayor who chairs the commission. “It’s educational...but it’s also fun in that there’s surprise and discovery.”
