Governor Mitch Daniels has announced that former Fort Wayne Police T. Neil Moore has been appointed head of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
From the Governor's press release:
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) Board today approved Governor Mitch Daniels’ appointment of T. Neil Moore as the agency’s executive director.
Moore replaces Mike Cunegin who joined the Indiana Department of Correction as deputy commissioner of administration.
Neil’s 30-plus years of local law enforcement experience will provide ICJI with valuable perspective,” Daniels said.
“He understands the broad range of challenges faced by police agencies and how ICJI can best assist departments in their crime-fighting initiatives.”
Moore began his law enforcement career as an Indiana State Excise Police agent. He then worked for the Fort Wayne Police Department, advancing through the ranks to serve as the city’s chief of police for 10 years.
After 22 years in law enforcement, Moore became an assistant professor at the school of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
During his academic career, he assisted police and sheriffs’ departments in establishing community policing initiatives and improving communications between officers and citizens.
ICJI provides grants to local law enforcement agencies for victims’ assistance funds; impaired and dangerous driving enforcement initiatives; methamphetamine control; and programs to reduce and prevent juvenile crime.
Moore will begin his new duties on March 17.
Mr. Moore joins Indiana State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell as former Fort Wayne Police Department members who head top positions in Indiana law enforcement. Mike Cunegin is also a former member of the Fort Wayne Police Department and a past member and President of the Allen County Council.
Full disclosure: Both T. Neil Moore and Mike Cunegin actively endorsed the City Council candidacy of editor Mitch Harper in 2007.
Congratulations, Chief Moore! You will do a great job.
And congrats to Mike as well.
Nice to see that we in Fort Wayne are doing our part by contributing great talent to state government.
