Sometimes, Fort Wayne Observed receives comments that are in response to older posts. The following comment deserves to be highlighted due to its poignancy. It also reiterates - in a very personal way - the need for accelerated installation of cable barriers on our highways.

John was my father and I couldn't agree with you more.
It was written in response to this post of March 6, 2007:
Since we are on traffic safety I reiterate my support for additional deployment of cable barriers in the median of I-69. In a post on February 6th, Fort Wayne Observed has cited the utility of these cables following a crash on I-69 near Muncie one month ago.
On Saturday, February 17, John M. Goldy, 47, of New Haven, was killed on I-69 when a southbound Michigan driver crossed the median and struck the northbound vehicle of Mr. Goldy.
This weblog has had early and repeated advocacy of the deployment of additional cable barriers on Indiana's four-lane highways. The barriers are proven to save lives and minimize catastrophic injury.
Jeremy Goldy cannot get his father back. Yet, Indiana can do something to ensure that other young men and women do not have their fathers prematurely taken from them.
I continue to drive past dads wreck site and to this day there is not a barrier in place. I have read several articles of accidents on 69 that could have been prevented by barriers.

Just think if Alabama had installed the cable barriers. We might have these four Angola boys with us today.

Mitch, They are finally doing something. Only took 4 years and more injuries and fatalities, at least someone will be saved going forward! http://www.wane.com/dpp/news/more-cable-barriers-coming-to-i-69
