It seems likely that the conservatives in the caucus are going to attempt once again to depose Garton, even if he is re-elected to the Senate. It will be interesting to see if Garton would step aside in favor of someone like Long if it becomes apparent he will not have the votes to get re-elected as Senate President Pro Tem in order to keep one of the whackos from leading the Senate. It looks like the odds are that the Senate Republicans will be more conservative after this election.
