From Doug LeDuc:
“There’s going to be a major drive to try and contact your legislators and let them know you’re pro-legalization and regulation of the Cherry Masters, and that it would reduce the number of machines out there,” said Loren Fifer, who owns two local Peanuts taverns and is a regional vice president of the association.
They expect to raise awareness of the issues wherever the machines have operated in Indiana so the campaign generates broad support by the time the next legislative session begins in January.
More than 100 members met in June at Peanuts Too on Goshen Avenue to talk strategy with two legislators who befriended their cause: Sen. Bob Meeks, R-LaGrange, and Rep. Win Moses Jr., D-Fort Wayne.
They acknowledged that under a new administration, an era of lax enforcement has ended, so establishments licensed to sell alcohol by the drink must change the state law if they want to see any more revenue from the illegal machines.
