This past Monday, Senator Evan Bayh stopped off at the downtown Shapiro's Deli to have lunch with Hoosier Bloggers. Here's a roundup from those commenting on the historic meeting:
- Josh Clayborn: "With Bayh the only ideology appears to be a lack of ideology. That may help a him win votes in a red state, but it doesn't instill the type of passion and energy that wins national campaigns. In my mind this is Bayh's biggest hurdle, and indeed the challenge facing the national Democratic party."
- HoosierPlew has audio of the Q&A.
- Fort Wayne Observed
- Advance Indiana
- "I think it is fair to say that the bloggers present were impressed that Sen. Bayh took the time to meet with us. Bloggers were free to ask the questions they had for a little more than an hour. . . Sen. Bayh's staff should be commended for their good work in putting on today's event."
- On GLBT issues
- On other issues, which illustrate that, "If Sen. Evan Bayh becomes the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee, he will have accomplished it by running down the middle as a consensus building candidate and not as a candidate who panders to party activists on the far left. "
- Torpor Indy
- Bil Browning, "As blogging has become a more and more respected outlet for news and information in the Hoosier state, it's spectacular to see a bright politician like Senator Bayh seek to use the new medium to his advantage . . . Unfortunately, I can't report any good news on Bayh's answer to my question . . ."
- Jerame Davis, "[A]t some point, I think the Senator is going to need to break out of his mold if he's hopeful of playing to a national audience."
- Chris Douglas takes issue with Bayh's opposition to the FMA.
- Linda Perdue, who asked the first question.
- Shakespeare's Sister, "In the end, though, props to Senator Bayh for meeting with his blogging constituents and leaving himself open to criticism (some of which I've now delivered). I imagine he left each of us with some things to think about, and I truly hope we did the same for him."
- Robert Rouse has a nice narrative of the event.
- Craig at Reverent and Free, "The question I kept asking the bloggers I met yesterday was 'what's this all about?' Why would a man whose career has seemingly been one success after another want to meet with a group of these strange creatures known as bloggers?"
- Jim Shella notes on the significance of the event and, as an aside, "members of the mainstream media who blog, including yours truly, didn't get invited."
Wish I could have been there but sometimes real life.....work....just gets in the way. I'm glad Bayh met with a wide array of Hoosier bloggers.
Hope Bayh does it again in different areas of the state.
take care, marie :)
