Greg Wyshynksi writes the blog "Puck Daddy" for Yahoo Sports. He writes in one of his recent posts:
The Komets are an interesting franchise. They won three straight IHL titles before moving to the CHL, considered better competition, where they won again. They're expected to move to the ECHL next season. So when do they play for the Stanley Cup? Within 10 years?
He wrote the comment in a post about the video posted by the JG of JG writer Justin Cohn getting razzed by the Komets for his written prediction that Wichita would win the CHL championship.
I was in Wichita last week when the Komets played there. They looked fantastic. The final score was 6 to 3, but the "feeling" of the game was that they dominated. It didn't feel like a championship game that's for sure.
I really hope they move on to the ECHL and maybe the AHL. Of course it would be great if they moved to the NHL, but after living in Atlanta and seeing how a 5.2 million person metro area couldn't support a NHL franchise, I am not sure if a 414,000 person metro area could. But then again, the Thrashers moved to Winnipeg with only an 730,000 metro population. So we'll see.
