Political realities can sometimes seem like the stuff of fiction.
Who could have scripted a congressional election that has had the twists and turns of this year? A congressman known for his advocacy of abstinence resigns due to an affair with a staffer. The resignation, which the congressman has contemplated for awhile, doesn't take place until after that congressman wins a primary in which one challenger spends nearly half a million dollars of his own money.
The ensuing race for the nomination to succeed the congressman draws 15 candidates of varied backgrounds and experiences.
Well, you couldn't make this stuff up.
It is enough to make one might yearn for an alternative reality in Fort Wayne.
Which brings us to the endorsement.
Fort Wayne Observed was founded five years ago by Nathan Gotsch. Mr. Gotsch, a graduate of Concordia High School, won a Heartland Film Festival award while in High School.
Mr. Gotsch went on to graduate from the film school of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He is a keen observer of cultural and political absurdities.
He has also been a busy fellow since handing over the reins of Fort Wayne Observed.
He has worked long and hard with a dedicated crew and cast to produce a television pilot. It is one based on a series of mock commercial videos in 2006 which ended up having an extensive exposure on national television. You can see the original Josh Jennings ad by Nathan Gotsch on CollegeHumor.com.
The pilot is geographically based in Fort Wayne. If you look carefully at the pilot, which is now available for viewing on your computer, it contains a reference to Haley Elementary School, and visuals of a Mitch Daniels photo and a copy of the News-Sentinel.
So, Fort Wayne Observed endorses Josh Jennings for Congress.
You saw the trailer. You may view the whole pilot on the Josh Jennings website.
There may be a few readers of FWOb who need to know that there is a brief bit of what the British might call 'laddie humour' at the beginning.
The pilot was produced outside the tradition television development system at the recommendation of an executive producer of FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, whose creators did the same thing.
The Josh Jennings candidacy for congress doesn't seem so unbelievable when you contemplate the reality of the current 3rd District.
"Dude, do you have any idea of how much a Congressman makes?"
"I've also applied for a job at Subway."
The Josh Jennings ads were CLASSIC and the pilot has some really funny parts.
