Last evening's downpour before the Three Rivers Festival Fireworks resulted in water boiling up from the manhole at the intersection of Clinton and Superior Streets downtown. Stormwater flooded the intersection and drained north on Clinton Street toward the crossing in front of the pavilion at Headwaters Park.
The scene was reminiscent of the flooding earlier this year that temporarily closed Clinton Street.
Former resident Jeff Gubitz, on learning of the latest incident, commented, "Still never got that fixed. I have seen that manhole bouncing like a magician's plate on the Ed Sullivan Show."
Many persons who had spread blankets and set up lawnchairs in anticipation of the fireworks were seen abandoning their chosen spots for the safety of their vehicles.
The Tincaps' game was rained out but the Three Rivers Festival Fireworks went off on time and in spectacular fashion.

The metaphors of Jeff Gubitz are classic!

The water on Superior Street was knee-deep in places.
I should know: my car stalled out on that stretch. Superior Street slopes down from the center and there is a stretch directly in front of the Gas House where the right (south) side dips. That was where the water was up over the sidewalk, and where my car stalled.
Water was still draining out of it today when it went in to the dealer.
