Congratulations! Rod Woodson New Hall of Famer

Fort Wayne's Rod Woodson will be inducted in to the National Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Congratulations to Mr. Woodson, his family, and his Fort Wayne coaches, teachers and teammates.

St Peter's Steeple is Completed

The steeple at St. Peter's Catholic Church is now complete. The final section was put in place Monday by workers from Martin Inc.

The church is located at 518 E. DeWald just east of Lafayette.

The present church structure was dedicated in 1894.

Jeff Fraser candidate for IU Student Association Vice President

Jeff Fraser of Fort Wayne is a candidate for Vice-President of the Indiana University Student Association on the Hoosier Ticket.  Mr. Fraser attended Carroll High School in Fort Wayne.

He is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at IU, studied abroad this past summer and interned with the Mitt Romney campaign in 2007.

Past Presidents of the IU Student Association include attorney Casey Cox, a member of the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission and former Fort Wayne mayor Paul Helmke.

Men's B-Ball; St Francis over Taylor

The St Francis Cougars men's basketball team defeated Taylor University by a score of 63 to 59 at St Francis' Hutzell Athletic Center. =

Brown Elected

Larry Brown has bee elected Allen County's newest County Councilman by 20 to 19.=

Caucus Tied

Larry Brown and Mahlon Houlihan are the remaining candidates for the County Council seat being vacated by Cal Miller.

On the most recent ballot, the candidates tied at 20 votes apiece.=

Hughes Staying Put on County Council

Allen County Council member Paula Hughes announced at today's Republican Caucus that she will not be leaving the County Council to take a position in Indianapolis with the Department of Local Governmental Finance. =

Public Radio Putting Analog Stations Up for Sale

Northeast Indiana Public Radio has sent a letter to NIPR members that the NIPR Board voted on January 19th to put the analog stations carrying classical music up for sale.

NIPR will continue to "provide classical programming on WBOI 89.1 FM HD-2 and www.nipr.fm."

The signals of WBNI 94.1, WCKZ 91.3 and W204BF 88.7 "are available for sale immediately." =

Pigeons Dare the Peregrine Falcons Downtown

A Friesland-based weblog called Falco Peregrinus has written about the Peregrine falcons of downtown Fort Wayne and the pigeons who have learned to dare the falcons in their One Summit Square aerie.

The post is illustrated with photos taken this week from the monitor - AEP's FalconCam - which maintains a watch of the falcon nesting site.  By the way, the falcon is named "Roosevelt."

From Falco Peregrinus:

A bunch of probably cold and hungry pigeons came to dinner not knowing they just might end up as the very dinner themselves.

But they also know that sitting very still and do not move means the peregrine falcon does not notice them as prey. A nervous frightened flying pigeon is very attractive for a peregrine falcon, but a sitting one is not.

Rob Young Resigns as Head of Economic Development Alliance

Rob Young has resigned as President of the Fort Wayne - Allen County Economic Development Alliance effective February 13th.  Mr. Young made the announcement at 2 PM today.

He has served as president of the chief economic development organization in northeast Indiana for the last 8.5 years.  He had previously held a similar post in Michigan.

Mr. Young indicated he will be joining a local firm in the orthopaedics industry.
