The annual Fort Wayne Polar Bear Plunge is tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM at the boat ramp at City Utilities Park off Parnell. I've participated in the last three (2006, 2007, 2008) the Polar Bear Plunges; will I make it four in a row?
Truth be told, I am still wavering on the New Year's Day Plunge. On the other hand, the experience does tend to punctuate my remarks on the need to clean up our rivers.
The New Year's Day plunge as been something of a tradition for 4th District City Council members ... well, at least the last two. City Councilman Tom Hayhurst took the plunge in 2006.
If State Senate President Pro Tem David Long and Ben Eisbart were to take to the icy water tomorrow, it could expand the pool ... so to speak. Both Senator Long and Mr. Eisbart served as 4th District Councilman.
Those who miss tomorrow's plunge will have another opportunity in February. There will be a Polar Bear Plunge into Mirror Lake at the University of St. Francis campus on February 14th to benefit Special Olympics of Indiana. That icy swim is definitely on my calendar. The plunge takes place at 1 PM on St. Valentine's Day with registration starting at noon at the Hutzell Athletic Center located off Leesburg Road. I presume hot showers at Hutzell will be available immediately following the frigid dip.
Mitch:
Count me out...I've never been into "major shrinkage" issues...(except for big government) LOL.
But I WILL watch it (from the warmth of my house) on TV.

I did that once in a lake in Michigan. Then ran as fast as I could 1/4 of a mile to a Hot Tub. Will there be hot tubs on site...that may swing my decision ;)
Ed. note: No hot tubs. Although, there may be some hot chocolate about.
