Some in the old media were quick to claim gold medal Men's Volleyball winner Lloy Ball as Fort Wayne's third Olympic gold medal winner.
A more accurate description is that Mr. Ball is Wooodburn's first Olympic gold medalist.
His family is grounded in East Allen County in Monroeville and Woodburn. We're all proud of him whevever we are in northeastern Indiana.
Congratulations, Lloy. And congratulations to Dad, too, who was instructing us in volleyball at New Haven High School the year Lloy was born.
In an interview with NBC you may view here, Lloy Ball talks about his family making sacrifices for him and buoying him up on his way to Olympic gold.

Indiana is so proud of Lloy Ball!
Congratulations!
He played at IPFW, I believe and his dad, Arnie was the Men's Volleyball Coach.

Watching the US / Serbia quarterfinal match at 3 am was one of the most exciting competitions I have ever seen in my life. I think that was the defining moment of the US Men's Indoor volleyball.
On a side note, I heard a couple of times the commentator's mention Fort Wayne during some of the matches I watched. Like all people living/from Fort Wayne - I was overjoyed to hear it.
