On Tuesday afternoon, I am going to be taking my Trek on a trek to the City County Building for the Fort Wayne City Council meeting.
The goals of National Bike Month are:Goal #1 Motorists Will Share the Road
Goal #2 Bicyclists Will Ride Safely
Goal #3 Bicyclists Will Wear Helmets
Goal #4 The Legal System Will Support Safe Bicycling
Goal #5 Roads and Paths Will Safely Accommodate Bicycling

I used to ride my Trek road bike to and from work. The route was a mix of residential streets, busy thoroughfares, and the Rivergreenway. I would advise being on the lookout for inattentive drivers and falling trees.

Be safe, Mitch!
I think fully half the drivers on West Jefferson are certifiably insane, and most of the rest are either preoccupied with cell phones or just don't care.
There's a real need for trails to connect the city's greenway system with the businesses in that area and on Illinois Road.

GoogleMap yourself a backstreet route, easy to do with the click'n'drag route change it now allows. Unless you want to make a big awareness-raisin' spectacle of yourself on Jefferson, in which case I'd find about nine fellow travelers. Make yourself a mini-Critical Mass.

Mitch, I have been regularly riding my bike to work this year. Today was a cold ride this morning! I have a short stretch of busy roads before I hit the Greenway, and then a small stretch of less traveled residential streets to get to work.
Like Robert says stay away from Jefferson Blvd, only a short stretch of it has the Greenway....we have all seen his photos from that area!
If I were you, I'd be tempted to hit Engle Rd(still dangerous, but lesser of all evils), and take that Bluffton, Jump on the Greenway till it hits Main St., near where Mr. Pence resides.
Safe Travels!

It's good to see that some things in Fort Wayne are still the same (i.e. West Jefferson).

I was bound and determined to ride my bike to work today, rain be darned. And so when Jeannette Dillon at WBOI said that the rain was to be gone by 10, I was thrilled to believe her. Now I want her to come pick me up and drive me home :-)
Tomorrow I will report back as to whether I dissolved in the drizzle.
