This morning I attended the ceremonies at the new site of the Fort Wayne Police Memorial on Wells Street just north of the St. Marys bridge.

Mayor Tom Henry, Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York, Allen County Commissioners Linda Bloom, Nelson Peters and Bill Brown, Chief Dave Gladiuex of the Allen County Sheriff's Department and County Recorder John McGauley were among those in attendance.  FWPD spokesman Michael Joyner served as MC.

Other City Council members in attendance were FWPD Deputy Chief Marty Bender, Council President Tom Didier and Councilwoman Karen Goldner. Marty Bender was part of the Honor Guard.  Tom Didier sang the National Anthem.

It is no surprise that fellow blogger John McGauley was at this event. He has written about the efforts of local business owners Jerry and Linda Vandeveer (and others) to make the Law Enforcement / Fire Fighters Memorial a reality. This memorial will help preserve the legacy of the men and women who have fallen in the line of duty.
