Mark Souder backs Zoeller in AG race

The Indiana State Republican Convention will be anything but a somnolent affair this year.  The nomination for Attorney General to succeed incumbent AG Steve Carter will be between Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas and Carter's Chief Deputy AG Greg Zoeller.

Greg Zoeller has picked up the backing of 3rd District US Representative Mark Souder.

Mr. Costas has the announced backing of the Governor, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, Secretary of State Rokita, Treasurer Richard Mourdock, and State Treasurer Tim Berry.

Mr. Zoeller has the backing of his boss, AG Carter.

Last but not least, Mr. Zoeller has the backing of another fellow who had employed him - former Vice-President Dan Quayle.

Comments

Greg Zoeller has the most important endorsement of all....that of Attorney General, Steve Carter. This endorsement shines above any "political" gain ideas that Daniels has, as the office of Attorney General is supposed to act independently.

Costas wouldn't have a prayer against Linda Pence in the fall.

I knew Greg Zoeller, Greg Zoeller was a friend of mine, but Mr. Costas, you're no Greg Zoeller.

My understanding is that Mr. Costas is a fine man and was recently elected Mayor of Valporaiso. This is the city where the Governor's fall opponent Jill Long-Thompson started her public career as a city council member. Mr. Costas already has a job. He is the recently elected Mayor of a large city.

Rumor is that the Governor recruited Mr. Costas to run for AG and has endorsed his candidacy. It is also widely discussed that he was selected largely because of geographical political balance for the state republican ticket in November. This is the wrong reason for selecting an Attorney General. In fact, I actually believe there would be a political backlash to such a blatantly political maneuver.

The Attorney General should be an independent voice free of the direct influence of the Governor or any other public official. He or she should not be selected for political reasons.

Mr. Costas can help the Daniels/Zoeller ticket a great deal by simply doing a good job as Mayor.

I met Greg Zoeller over 20 years ago. He was the State Director for Senator Quayle at the time. Greg hired me to work for the Senate staff and we have been friends ever since. Greg has been working closely with and for the current AG Steve Carter for several years and is well versed and prepared for the transition. He has been endorsed by Mr. Carter. Greg's broad background, depth of understanding, and firm grasp of the issues make him the best choice for Attorney General. He is ready to serve. And yes, Fuzzy is his cousin.

Greg is a good family man and will provide an independent voice on behalf of the citizens of Indiana as the state's top lawyer.

If you are a delegate, send a message to the poitical fixers that regular people actually do matter. Please support Greg Zoeller for Attorney General.
