A body was found in Purdue's Owen Hall today in a locked utility room. The body is believed to be that of Wade Steffey, 19, a Purdue student who has been missing since January 16, 2007. One of the last places he was reportedly seen was Owen Hall.
How competent was the investigation into Mr. Steffey's disappearance? Should parents of Fort Wayne area students enrolled at the West Lafayette campus be asking questions about campus safety and security?
This story is likely to get similar national exposure to that of the Taylor University mixed victim identities.
I can't believe this is happening. I know the body they found has to be Wade's. And to know that law enforcement was searching for him and didn't look in that specific room because it was locked. WHAT? He was last seen less than 50 yards from that area and you don't check a locked door? To me that would peak interest? His parents trusted that law enforcement, etc. were doing their job. From a parent who has lost a child, I only pray for his parents ability to recover from his death and what might prove to have been a preventable tragedy.
