Ann Arbor Law School headed to Florida, not Fort Wayne
There was speculation earlier this month that there might be some efforts to attract the core of the Ave Maria School of Law to give a jump start to a University of St. Francis Law School in Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne Observed reported on it in this post from February 5th.
Today, it was announced that the Law School will be moving from Ann Arbor to the new campus of Ave Maria University near Naples, Florida. Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan has been the driving force behind the Ave Maria School of Law and the Ave Maria University.
David Crumm of the Detroit Free Press reports:
Ave Maria officials declined to comment until a midafternoon news conference, but e-mails from faculty and former staff from the school earlier today described a staff announcement of the move by School of Law Dean Bernard Dobranski.
The law school, which opened in the fall of 2000 and was accredited by the American Bar Association two years later, was founded by Monaghan to train a new generation of Catholic attorneys. Current enrollment is about 360 students.
it's no surprise the law school was coming here, to SW florida. The Ave Maria being built is an entire new town, when it's all said and done, and built out. The more educational of a component they can add to the university, the more attractive the homes, and development surrounding it, becomes.
