A Ton of Stuff!

There's a ton of stuff in the blogosphere as of late.  Before I get to it though, I realize IBR has taken a more political turn as of late.  That's just my predisposition.  If you do have something interesting that is a of a non-political nature, that has something of statewide interest, I'll be happy to post.  Now with that said, here we go...

SJR-7 received quite a bit of attention today from a lot of blogs!  Gary Welsh, Bilerico, Sardonic Bomb and Common Place Book all have thoughts.

Masson has thoughts on liberty and discrimination.

A lot of us have written about the Super Bowl, either the upcoming Sunday game or Indianapolis' efforts to land the 2011 Super Bowl.

I've written about how the city's biggest problem may be where the teams would practice.  Matt Tully wonders if we really want a Super Bowl.   TDW writes about a rather bizarre Hancock County Super Bowl prank.  Daily Kos has an open thread.  Eye on Indianapolis talks about Jim Irsay's "contribution" to the Super Bowl bid.

Jim Shella tells us lawmakers are taking the Monday after the Super Bowl off.  I Choose Indy wants  us to pack the pews on Sunday.   Feed Me Drink Me has a good listing of the Super Bowl parties in the Capital City.

See you in a couple days.

What a Week!!!

What a week this has been fellow bloggers!   With a hearing scheduled next week on SJR-7, the  folks at Bilerico are upping the ante, and that's getting reaction from all over the blogosphere.

RiShawn Biddle is one of them with a different take on the matter.

This is also leading to a war of words between Brian Howey and TDW.

Masson is keeping us updated on the Legislature.

Gary Welsh is writing about the legal antics of Indianapolis Democrat Ron Gibson.

I'll post up some more tomorrow.

Sunday, Blogger Sunday!

Many of you are getting ready for the Colts.  A couple of us are watching the Bears.  I'm looking forward to a match up between the two.  It would an awesome I-65 contest.  In the meanwhile though...

If you didn't see, INTAKE has an interesting story about local bloggers.  That's caused Liberal Indiana to think about an extreme makeover.

Masson writes about today's game as does Indy Tax Dollars.  But the two have a different perspective on the event.   Jim Shella also has a couple words. So does Bilerico.

A man in a chicken suit has become the topic of conversation between Taking Down Words, Advance Indiana and Indy Undercover

Expresso wonders about the costs associated with truth-in-sentencing legislation.

I do my usual gossip and rumor mongering over at Indiana Barrister.

Good luck, Colts and go Bears!

State of the State

Normally, I wait a couple days between posts, but with Gov. Mitch Daniels giving the State of the State Tuesday night, I thought I would let you know what we're saying.

Your's truly gives a straightforward rundown with reaction.

TDW takes Mitch to the woodshed and back.

Advance Indiana thinks Mitch could have done better.

Sir Hailstone offers a different opinion.

The Muncie Free Press has reaction from the State School Superintendent.

If I missed you in my Google search, let me know and I'll post accordingly.

Happy MLK Day!

Happy MLK Day fellow bloggers.  We've all been busy for the past few days.  Here's what we've been blogging about.

Topor Indy writes about MLK Day, as well as Taking Down Words.  Bilerico also has some thoughts.

Advance Indiana writes about the return of the Gay Marriage Amendment and what went on behind closed doors at the financially-troubled Columbia Club in Indianapolis.

Your's truly, Matt Tully, Advance Indiana and TDW all have thoughts on Ike Randolph dropping out of the race for Mayor of Indianapolis.

TDW and her arch nemisis, Indy Undercover both write about a man in a chicken suit.

Indy Tax Dollars has more on local government finance.

Doug Masson has the scoop on the Colts.

Your favorite editor is Bears fan.

So What's Up?

Things have been a little hectic lately and the Typepad was down for a day or so.  I've got some interesting items on the Governor's Budget and no New Property Tax Replacement Credits for local governments.  I've also got some thoughts on Mayor Bart Peterson's anti-crime plan.

Indy Tax Dollars is completely opposed to giving local governments more taxing authority.

Jim Shella talks about how expanded gaming may be in Indiana's future.

Gary Welsh also talks about crime and whether the FSSA privatization plan was legal.

RiShawn takes SueEllen Reed to task in Expresso.

Liberal Indiana
says Iraq is a house of cards ready to fall.  Bilerco doesn't have a lot of pleasant things to say either.

Ft. Wayne Observed
reports Indiana Coroners are getting a grant to stop screwing up.

Sunday Morning Reading

Good morning, bloggers and others seeking information.  I've completed my Sunday morning reading of the blogosphere and here's what we're writing about.

Dan Burton was the only member of the U.S. House of  Representatives to vote against ethics reform banning members from taking gifts and trips from lobbyists.  That vote did not go unnoticed by Advance Indiana or Taking Down Words.

Jim Shella asks WWPBD?  (What would Pat Bauer Do?)

Doug Masson tells us about a Senate Bill that would take away a minor's driver's license if they are caught smoking.

Your's truly offers up perspectives on Full Day Kindergarten, the Commerce Connector and Lottery Privatization.

Mike Kole warns Hoosiers to hold on to their wallets now that lawmakers are back.

Is the lottery really just a game for stupid people who are bad at math?  Fort Wayne Observed thinks so.

The American Democracy Project writes about the U.S. losing the war on terror.

Topor Indy questions whether Erik Estrada yelling at an activist is really newsworthy?

Looking for Something to Do? Try the Blogger Politic

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, you may want to head to Bloomington, IN for an Internet forum.  Here are the details.

The Politic Exchange
“The Ideal Bloomington Portal”
Monroe County Public Library, Room 1B
Saturday, January 6, 2006 @ 1p-4p

This ad-hoc community conversation will focus on strengthening the use of the Internet for local benefit. There are several online forums and calendars serving Monroe County, but public awareness and content coordination are problematic. This "unconference" will include participants from the City government, universities, media, and local interest groups.

We would especially like to identify the local blogosphere and expand it's effectiveness through promotion and aggregation. Bloomington-area bloggers are needed for this event, but we would also like to encourage all authors to attend and contribute your experiences.

More information is available online (http://www.blogschmog.net/blog/? p=691) or by joining our Yahoo! group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ politicexchange/).

Contact Kevin Makice (kmakice@indiana.edu, cell 812.360.2557) about free registration.

Have a good weekend.

Let's Give Them Something to Blog About

My fellow bloggers, lots to blog about today, particularly with Democrats taking over in Washington.    Brian Howey writes about how Indiana's newest Democratic Congressmen voted.   Gary Welsh at Advance Indiana gives Speaker Pelosi her due.  TDW writes about the new Senator from Tennesee's digs.

Mitch Harper of Ft. Wayne Observed tells how State Rep. Phil Giaquinta sent congratulations to new lawmakers and some who did not become new lawmakers.   Speaking of the legislature, Masson has a listing of the Senate Bills that have been filed.

RiShawn Biddle blogs about our people's dirty laundry.

And Indiana's Voter ID law has been upheld as constitutional.

What's on our blogs?

Hello, Indiana Bloggers.  Here's what we're writing about today.

RiShawn Biddle has some thoughts at Expresso on the recent departure of Saddam Hussein from this world to the next.   So does In the Agora.

Gary Welsh at Advance Indiana chimes in about a former Joint Chiefs of Staff who thinks  "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a bad idea, primarily when you're trying fight a war on terror and need as many people as you can get without a draft.  Speaking of war,  Bilerico has a somewhat similar take on the War In Iraq.   And Liberal Indiana wants to know what you have you done lately for the Peace Movement?

Indy Tax Dollars writes that Governor Mitch Daniels could learn something from Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson when it comes to salesmanship, even if they don't like what's being sold.

Jim Shella writes about the late President Gerald Ford.

Taking Down Words goes after the Governor on the BMV, what Indiana's been buying  and the FSSA.

TDW's arch nemesis, Indy Undercover writes about today's Inaguration of the new Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.   Your's truly takes a more concilatory approach.

Ft. Wayne Observed writes about automatic license plate recognition.

Doug Masson tells about a SB 99  which could let college cops expand their jurisdiction.

Former IBR editor Zach Wendling writes about things that you have read for yourself.

Happy New Year!  Indiana Blog Review is proud to announce Abdul-Hakim Shabazz as its new editor.   As many of you know Abdul-Hakim is the morning show host at WXNT-AM in Indianapolis and also co-authors Indiana Barrister

His primary goals will be to keep the blog updated regularly with information, although of local origin, but statewide importance.  Indiana Blog Review should be a valuable resource for all state bloggers.
